Boone Lake.  A 4,250-acre impoundment. Directions: Located north of Johnson City, with access via I-81, US 11E/19W, TN36, TN75 and TN34. A TVA operated lake. Located in Sullivan and Washington Counties. Length 33 miles, shoreline 130 miles. Named for the pioneer explorer Daniel Boone, Boone Dam impounds the South Fork Holston River. The lake was created in 1952 with the completion of the 1,640-foot long, 160-foot high Boone Dam. There are several privately owned commercial marinas or docks on the lake and a visitor reception building at the Boone Dam Reservation. Boone Lake provides fishing opportunities for white, striped, hybrid, smallmouth and largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie.

There are at least eight commercial boat docks and nine public boat ramps on the reservoir. The public recreation area at Boone Dam is the most popular, but public land can be found at various spots along the lake shore. Most of the commercial docks and marinas include commercial recreation areas.
