The Big Pigeon River is a Class II, IV river with difficult rapids, suitable only for advanced paddlers.Easily accessible from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Knoxville, and  Asheville, the Big Pigeon River is rapidly becoming one of the Southeast's most popular whitewater runs, and a must-do during your mountain vacation. 1995 marked the debut of guaranteed recreational water releases. In 1996 the world's attention was on Tennessee's Olympic whitewater...Now it's YOUR turn.

Whether you are new to whitewater, or an experienced rafter, you'll find this river exciting and wet! Rapids like Powerhouse, Vegematic, Accelerator, and the infamous Class IV Lost Guide will keep your heart rate up as the river twists and winds down the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The Pigeon has been the site of the Champion Whitewater Shoot-out Slalom Series for the last 5 years and was the site of the 1996 US Wildwater Team Trials. Whitewater enthusiasts have given the Pigeon high marks for it's abundance of play spots and ease of shuttle.
